2020 'Preconceived Notions' Skin Contact Muscat
Grapes: Muscat
Vineyard: Encompassed by a large organic walnut orchard, the wire-trained, CCOF certified-organic fruit of Davis Drive were planted about twenty years ago in the heart of Lake County AVA. Most of Lake County experiences a vast diurnal-temperature fluctuation, with intense sunshine providing warm days and afternoon winds that cool down the area, often resulting in 50-degree diurnal cycles.
AVA: Lake County
Method: This Lake County Muscat underwent whole cluster carbonic maceration for 17 days. We then pressed it into tank and let it settle for 1 week before transferring it to neutral oak barrels for 12 months.
Tastes and Smells: We love muscat on the skins because it's like cheating, you get so much more than you deserve from those skin flavors. You get a floral blast on the nose with a hint of tropical peach rings. Add in the skins of the grape and you layer on citrus notes, grapefruit pith, and tons of warm spices.
